I served as President of the Scottish Association of Metals (2013-2015) and have been a Chartered Engineer and a Member of the Institute of Mechanical Engineers since 2006, I am also a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. I obtained a BSc in Physics with Astrophysics from the University of Leeds and a PhD in Geophysics from the University of Wales at Aberystwyth. Prior to working at Glasgow, I conducted materials-related research in several internationally leading groups in Europe, including: The Composites Group at the University of Nottingham, UK (2001-2005), The Materials Group in the Technical University of Eindhoven, The Netherlands (1999-2001), The Centre de Mise en Forme in the Ecole des Mines de Paris, France (1997-1999) and The Rheology Group in the University of Wales at Aberystwyth, UK (1992-1997). The scope of our activities is demonstrated in our publications which span a broad range of materials and manufacture methods. An important underpinning philosophy behind our research is that of Integrated Computational Materials Engineering, linking materials and manufacturing processes at multiple length scales, to better understand and control the process-properties-performance relationship. ![]() ![]() I co-lead the Materials and Manufacturing Group in the James Watt School of Engineering.
